Website must-haves for generating leads
If your website is meant to bring in enquiries, these are the non-negotiables. A practical checklist for service businesses.
A website that is meant to generate leads has a job to do, and most fail at it quietly. They look fine, they load, and they bring in almost nothing, because looking good and converting are two different skills. These are the must-haves that separate a site that earns enquiries from one that just exists.
A clear promise above the fold
Within a few seconds of landing, a visitor should know three things: what you do, who you do it for, and what to do next. That is the whole job of the top of your homepage. Most sites waste it on a vague slogan or a stock photo and make the visitor work to figure out if they are in the right place. They will not work, they will leave. Lead with the outcome you deliver, in plain words, and confusion stops costing you leads.
Speed and mobile-first
Most of your visitors are on a phone, on mobile data, with little patience. They abandon slow pages, and Google ranks them lower too, so a slow site loses leads twice. Fast loading and a genuinely mobile-first layout are not nice-to-haves, they are the floor you build everything else on. If your site was designed for desktop and squeezed onto mobile as an afterthought, you are leaking enquiries from the majority of your traffic.
Obvious calls to action
Every page should make the next step impossible to miss. Do not assume people will hunt for how to contact you, they will not.
- A clear, repeated call to action on every page, not just the homepage.
- A short enquiry form that asks for as little as possible. Every extra field costs you submissions.
- Phone and email that are easy to find from anywhere on the site.
A good rule: a visitor should never have to scroll back up or dig through a menu to take the next step.
Proof and tracking
People buy from businesses they trust, and proof is how you earn that trust before the first conversation. Reviews, real results, recognisable client names, and case studies all do the heavy lifting of convincing a stranger you are the safe choice. Pair that with proper tracking, so you actually know which pages and channels produce enquiries, and you can improve on purpose instead of guessing. Miss these and you are flying blind. If your site is short on any of these must-haves, a conversion-built website fixes them by design rather than by luck. Want us to take a look at yours?
